UPPER-AIR STATION OPEN IN MASHTAGHA

After radical reconstruction and modernization, an upper-air station closed in early 90’s because of economic problems, has been opened in the settlement of Mashtagha near Baku.

Minister of Ecology and Natural Resourse Huseyngulu Baghirov said addressing the opening ceremony that the station’s capabilities would allow for the first time in the Caucasian region to study various aspects of atmospheric parameters such as temperature, humidity, wind speed and atmosphere pressure at a height of over 40 meters. According to him, these data, which are of a great importance for drawing up meteorological forecasts in various spheres of economy and scientific research works will be disseminated through the Global telecommunication system of the World Meteorological Station. The Minister announced as well that reconstruction of the similar station is expected to start in the near future in Lankaran.

Making a comparison, it should be reminded that one of that kinds of stations located in Georgia does not work because of economic problem, while there is not at all such a structure in Armenia.
