Mayor of Cherkassi city of Ukraine sent a letter to the embassy of Azerbaijan in Ukraine whereby he informs that he supports with great pleasure the initiative of the Azerbaijani side on the establishment of relations between Sumgait and Cherkassi cities.

Due to the letter, Cherkassi authorities invite Sumgait delegation in early September this year to their town to sign Agreement on cooperation.

As is known, the Baku Slavonic University and Cherkassi State University has been cooperating already for several years. And now Sumgait and Cherkassi are to become twin cities.

One of the priorities in the activity of the Azerbaijani embassy is to establish mutually beneficial, close partner relations between the cities and regions of Azerbaijan and Ukraine, Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Ukraine Talat Aliyev told AzerTAj correspondent. A mighty impulse to this idea was given during the reception by President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev of the Ukraine delegation in Baku on 27 June this year, he underlined.
