ROSTELECOM MUST STOP OPERATING IN OCCUPIED TERRITORIES
The Russian Telecommunications Company Rostelecom must stop operating in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan, Arif Rahimzadeh, a first deputy Chairman of the Milli Majlis stated at the 4th sitting of the Azerbaijan-Russian Interparliamentary Commission in Baku. The company had opened international communications channels in Trans-Dniestr, Abkhasia and Nagorno-Karabakh. After the appeals from the governments of Georgia and Moldova, Rostelecom stopped its activities in the first two territories, but Azerbaijan’s claim was not considered. The Russian government and parliament stated more than once on recognition of territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, and that Nagorno-Karabakh is an integral part of the country. From this standpoint, the activities of Rostelecom contradict the interests of both Russia and Azerbaijan, he said. Mr. Rahimzadeh’s counterpart, first deputy Chairman of the RF Council of Federation Committee for CIS Affairs Konstantin Markelov confirmed illegality of Rostelecom’s activities and promised to focus on this issue on his return to Moscow.
