PRACTICAL ASPECTS OF GENDER IN EDUCATION DISCUSSED

The State Committee for Women’s Problems in association with Open Society Institute and Gender and Human Rights Studies Association conducted a round table discussion on the theme “Practical Aspects of Gender in Education” on 16 July.

Speakers - Chairman of the Committee Zahra Guliyeva, Ombudswoman Elmira Suleymanova, Deputy Chief of the Department of Science, Culture, People’s Education and Social Problems of the Cabinet of Ministers Rana Ibrahimbekova, the Milli Majlis Deputy Rabiyyat Aslanova, president of Gender Studies Association Lidiya Rasulova and others provided the information on the work done in Azerbaijan in the field of education, teaching women and girls according to the Beijing Declaration Platform adopted by the Fourth World Conference on Women.

The participants of the “round table” exchanged views on gender discrimination, in particular, existence of stereotyped idea of girls’ education in secondary and higher educational establishments, as well as analyzed basic issues and prospects of gender education’s development.
