OLYMPIC FLAME REACHED ISTANBUL

The Olympic flame was brought from Ukraine to Turkey on July 6, AzerTAj correspondent reported. At the official ceremony held in front of the “House of Olypiada” in Atakey district of Istanbul, the Olympic torch was given to chairman of the Olympic Committee of Turkey Togay Bayatli. Thus, Istanbul became one of the 34 cities to host Athens 2004 torch relay.

Renowned Turkish athletes, pop stars and businessmen carried the torch along the Istanbul streets. One hundred and twenty five people have carried the torch - a symbol of peace and friendship - from Europe to Asia and then to Europe again.
