Use of mineral resources in the Caspian Sea and maritime frontiers are beyond the agreements signed by the USSR and Iran in 1921 and 1940, Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Khalaf Khalafov told a press conference in Baku.

According to the Deputy Minister, the agreements do include the issue of frontiers. They envisage regulation of shipping and fishery.

K. Khalafov did not agree with the fact that the positions of the sides will be closer if they do not use these documents in the talks to determine the Caspian Sea legal status. He said existing legal situation must be taken into consideration in order to create any law or international norm. Although, the legal status has net been determined yet. There are some international legal rules of conduct.
